China lottery sales hit record low in October

Sports Lottery sales in China reached CNY18.43bn, the lowest since June but still a 24.0% increase from last year. Numbers games were the primary contributor, generating CNY8.86bn in sales, a 34.8% YoY growth despite the lowest sales since March. Sports betting also saw a 13.6% sales increase to CNY8.40bn. Instant win sports lottery games saw a slight 2.9% increase to CNY1.36bn, while sports video lottery sales remained low at CNY50,000.

The Welfare Lottery in China recorded sales of CNY12.28bn, down 5.4% from the previous year and the lowest since April. With the impending ban on video lottery terminals, numbers games accounted for the majority of sales at CNY10.68bn, a 20.6% increase compared to the previous months. Instant win games contributed CNY1.54bn, a substantial 33.9% YoY growth.

Among the declining game options, Keno experienced significant growth, with a 320.0% MoM increase and a 412.2% YoY increase, reaching CNY60.2m in sales. Overall, lottery sales in China for this year totaled CNY261.40bn, a 23.9% decrease from 2019.
